Types and functions of steam traps

1. Thermal power type (disc type)

It works according to the "dynamic" pressure difference between the low-speed condensed water and the high-speed secondary steam. There is only one moving part in the whole working process-stainless steel disc, so the maintenance is small, the volume is small, the displacement is small, and it is resistant to water hammer.

2. Mechanical type

It mainly senses the density difference between steam and condensed water, and through the change of condensed water level, makes the floating ball and buoy move up and down to operate the switch of the steam trap to achieve the purpose of steam blocking and drainage. The mechanical trap is not affected by the change of working pressure and temperature, it can discharge water when there is water, and the action is fast. There is no water in the heating equipment, so that the heating equipment can achieve the best heat exchange efficiency, and the accuracy and reliability are high. Its service life is generally more than 18,000 hours. The displacement is large, the back pressure is high, and the back pressure rate can reach more than 80%. The disadvantage is that it is bulky. Mechanical traps include float type and inverted bucket type.

3. Thermostatic type

This kind of steam trap uses the temperature difference between steam and condensed water to operate the temperature sensing element of the steam trap to control the switch of the steam trap. Condensate must be cooled below saturation temperature before being discharged.

It does not directly rely on condensed water to act, but uses temperature as the medium, so the action is slow, the action cycle is long, the energy consumption is large, and the emptying ability is strong. The service life is generally within 8000 hours. Small volume, small displacement, low back pressure, the back pressure rate is 30~40%. Thermostatic type steam trap.

The role of steam traps

(1) The condensed water can be quickly removed.

(2) Prevent steam leakage.

(3) Exclude air and other non-condensable gases.
